Leap Wireless International Inc. signed a definitive agreement to acquire PCS licenses in Eugene, Ore., and Fort Collins and Greeley, Colo., from American Wireless License Group L.L.C. The licenses, covering 700,000 potential customers, were the subject of a previous memorandum of understanding between the companies that expired Aug. 18. The conditions of the sale include the transfer of 10 megahertz of Leap’s current license holdings in Little Rock and Pine Bluff, Ark., to American Wireless and payment to Leap of an undisclosed amount.

Nextel Partners Inc. completed the acquisition of licenses from Nextel Communications Inc. covering 10.6 million potential customers in exchange for 1.27 million class B common shares of Nextel Partners stock, valued at $36 million. Nextel Partners also reimbursed Nextel Communications for $3.4 million of additional assets. The acquired licenses include markets in parts of Idaho, Iowa, Kentucky, Minnesota, Nebraska, New York, North Dakota, South Dakota, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Nextel Partners also launched its wireless network in Shreveport and Monroe, La.; Longview and Tyler, Texas; and Texarkana, Ark. The launch extends the company’s digital coverage along the Interstate 20 corridor west from Shreveport through Longview and Tyler to Dallas; Interstate 20 east from Shreveport to Monroe; Interstate 30 east from Dallas to Texarkana; and Interstate 49 south from Shreveport to Alexandria.

AT&T Wireless Services Inc. said it has completed the acquisition of wireless systems in San Diego and Indianapolis. AT&T Wireless acquired the San Diego system from GTE Corp. and the Indianapolis system from SBC Communications Inc.

MobileStar Network Corp. activated 11 access locations, bringing the total number of sites offering its broadband wireless Internet service to 130, including 100 hotel locations, 23 American Airlines Admirals Clubs locations and complete coverage in two airports. The new locations include New York, Chicago, Boston, Atlanta and San Francisco.
