SAN FRANCISCO-Oracle Corp. announced pending availability of complete middleware for developing and deploying wireless Internet content and applications services. The Oracle9i application server wireless edition leverages Oracle’s portal-to-go technology and is targeted at carriers, consumer portals, application service providers and corporations, said Oracle.
The new version will include pre-built adapters for wireless e-mail and directory integration as well as enhanced support for location-based services.
In addition, Oracle Corp. introduced a new initiative that will help independent software vendors, ASPs and system integrators build wireless portals, Internet applications and services using the Oracle9i edition.
The company also announced the Oracle FastForward enterprise wireless portal, a fixed-scope solution that enables corporations to build an enterprise portal that can be accessed via wireless devices, including Web-enabled phones, two-way pagers, and handheld devices such as Palm Pilots.
Oracle said the FastForward portal can be deployed in as little as one week, at the end of which companies can have a complete wireless infrastructure. The portal enables companies to design an enterprise portal that provides all users with centralized, up-to-date information, regardless of location. Mobile users can have access to corporate contact listings and searches, to-do lists and enterprise calendaring, in addition to a Palm Pilot Synch. Comprised of software and services, the portal is available immediately in the United States for $50,000.
