MURRAY HILL, N.J.-Residents in Virginia and West Virginia will likely see an expanded PCS network after a $100 million deal between Lucent Technologies Inc. and CFW Communications goes into effect.
CFW, which does business under the Ntelos name, awarded a three-year contract to Lucent to expand the Ntelos network across the two states.
Under the agreement, Lucent will provide wireless equipment as well as wireless intelligent networking software, which the companies hope will expand Ntelos’ existing CDMA-based wireless network. The expansion also will include the purchase of PrimeCo Communications’ PCS licenses, assets and operations in Richmond and Hampton Roads, Va.
“With Lucent’s help, we’re going to expand the exceptional wireless services that our customers have come to expect in West Virginia and Virginia,” said James S. Quarfoth, chairman and chief executive officer of CFW, an integrated communications provider.
The contract calls for Lucent to provide its 7R/E Network solutions, with the enhanced 5ESS switch that has broadband capabilities. In addition, it calls for Flexent CDMA PCS modcells and professional installation, maintenance and monitoring services through Lucent’s NetworkCare Professional Services organization.
