WASHINGTON-The Federal Communications Commission late Friday released the list of applicants to participate in the re-auction of bankrupt NextWave Telecom Inc.’s licenses, scheduled for Dec. 12.
The FCC accepted 44 applications, including Alltel Communications Inc. and Cook Inlet/VoiceStream Wireless Corp., and told 66 other entities-including AT&T Wireless PCS L.L.C. Cellco Partnership d/b/a Verizon Wireless, Cingular Wireless L.L.C., Leap Wireless International Inc., Nextel Acquisition Corp., and SprintCom Inc.-their applications were incomplete. The agency rejected the applications from Devon Mobile Communications L.P. and Theta Communications L.L.C.
The FCC plans to auction 422 licenses, mostly from NextWave. NextWave originally had successful bids for 90 licenses, but some of those permits have been carved up to allow big players to bid on smaller chunks. The personal communications services C- and F-blocks were previously reserved for small businesses. Other reclaimed and licenses unsold from previous auctions are included in this auction.
