ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill.-Motorola Inc.’s Global Telecom Solutions Sector won another large stake in China’s mobile phone market with a $29 million GSM communications award covering about 370,000 people in the Zhejiang Province.
The first award, which was $53 million, came in June.
The recent deal calls for Motorola and Eastcom, a company with manufacturing, distribution and service agreements with the Global Telecom Solutions Sector in China, to expand into four major cities in the province.
Motorola will integrate its Horizonmacro GSM infrastructure solution for wide-area coverage and capacity at 900 MHz.
The manufacturer said the project should be completed by early next year.
In related news, Motorola announced it plans to supply Zhejiang Branch of China Mobile Communications Corp. with a variety of wireless applications and consulting services.
Motorola said it plans to offer location-based services and consulting on market strategy, business modeling and customer billing early next year.
