Vodafone to use Sycamore switching products

CHELMSFORD, Mass.-In a US$40 million deal, Vodafone Group will use Sycamore Networks’ intelligent optical switching and transport products and services.

Sycamore will supply its SN 16000 optical core switch, SN 3000 optical access switch, SN 8000 optical transport platform and its optical network management system, SILVX, for Vodafone’s U.K. network.

“The value of introducing optical switching into our network is that it allows us to reduce the cost of offering services while increasing our ability to rapidly deploy additional bandwidth to support our growing network traffic,” said Mike Pinches, Vodafone’s managing director of networks.
