Under a new licensing agreement, Nortel Networks will be able to license Certicom’s Elliptic Curve Cryptography technology to create a virtual private network for handheld devices. Nortel said this will allow faster performance from its platform and will give Nortel the chance to use Certicom’s SSL Plus in its line of products.
MBO Wireless Inc. selected AirNet Communications Corp. to deploy its GPRS solution, the companies announced. The order, an extension of the 1998 contract that created MBO’s initial network, will feature AirNet’s broadband, software-defined AdaptaCell base station.
Veriprise Wireless Corp. announced its new Wireless Solution Ventures program, which the company hopes will provide customers with complete outsourcing support through various joint ventures. The company said the program will allow customers to outsource a variety of responsibilities, including design and development, device selection and management, systems integration and end-user support services.
Wireless World L.L.C. placed an initial order with ARC Wireless Solutions Inc. for the company’s antenna/transceiver solutions. Wireless World plans to purchase ARC’s integrated MDS/multichannel multipoint directional system solutions for its two-way fixed wireless broadband Internet access system.
SiGEM Inc. unveiled its new ePiNG Emerald, a mobile data terminal that the company said will allow fleet managers to track vehicles and communicate with drivers through a display screen. The ePiNG Emerald will advance the integration of the global positioning system and wireless technologies, the company said. The new product features a compact design, and its display and keypad will allow drivers to send and receive text messages. In addition, the Emerald has serial ports for printers, credit cards or debit card pin pads, the company said.
