SAN JOSE, Calif.-SnapTrack Inc., a Qualcomm Inc. subsidiary, announced a year-long test of its position-location technology is over and the results are positive.
The tests of SnapTrack’s Wireless Assisted global positioning system solution, conducted by a consortium of various industry representatives, found the technology can accurately locate mobile phones in a wide range of European calling environments. The technology can also support roaming services across borders, the group found.
The test group consortium comprises a variety of companies, including Vodafone Group plc, BellSouth Mobility DCS, BT Cellnet and France Telecom.
The tests covered a wide range of situations, from city centers to rural villages and highways, SnapTrack said.
“We’re looking forward to continuing our work with the GSM Test Group to bring the benefits of SnapTrack’s wireless location system to the market,” said Steve Poizner, the company’s president.
