BEND, Ore.-AT&T Wireless Services Inc. gained a new affiliate, Edge Wireless Communications L.L.C., which will provide mobile services to rural markets in four Western states and launch a personal communications services system in Idaho.
Edge Wireless, headquartered in Bend, Ore., will roll out PCS networks in Idaho, Oregon, California and Wyoming.
The new affiliate said it has 11 licenses in the 1900 MHz band in markets covering about 1.2 million potential customers. In addition, it is building a TDMA-based system, and Nortel is the primary network equipment provider.
