BELLEVUE, Wash.-Lucent Technologies Inc. has signed an equipment and software agreement to expand Sprint PCS’ network coverage and capacity in its Michigan, Indiana and Kentucky markets.
The $50 million deal, which is with Sprint PCS partners iPCS and Ubiquitel, allows Lucent to provide mobile switching equipment, base stations and the software for service provisioning, operations and management.
The contracts will provide infrastructure based on CDMA technology, which will enable iPCS to provide a slew of Sprint PCS voice and wireless Web services to more than 2 million potential Michigan subscribers in the Grand Rapids, Midland and Saginaw metropolitan areas as well as in Traverse City, Holland, Grand Haven and Manistee.
The Ubiquitel aspect of the contract covers more than 2.9 million potential customers in Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Louisville, Ky., and Nashville, Tenn., as well as southern Illinois, southern Indiana and western Kentucky.
