Starbucks customers across North America can enjoy their coffee simultaneously with high-speed wireless Internet access, thanks to an agreement between Microsoft and Starbucks Coffee Co. The contract, which will use MobileStar Network Corp.’s wireless broadband network, will allow Starbucks customers to access broadband content and services with their laptops, smart phones, Pocket PCs and other handheld devices.

Unified communications solutions provider AVT Corp. announced it acquired Infinite Technologies, which supplies wireless applications and wireless infrastructure solutions. The deal is valued at $24 million. AVT stands to gain Infinite’s Enterprise WAP Server and InterChange software solutions, as well as Infinite’s customer base and employee experience. “The acquisition of Infinite’s technology, its prominent customer base and proven expertise in bringing award-winning wireless applications to market will accelerate AVT’s delivery of a unified communications solution for next-generation wireless devices,” said David Anastasi, president and chief executive officer of AVT.

Lucent Technologies Inc. is facing another class-action lawsuit filed by investors over its inflated fourth-quarter earnings. The lawsuit, filed by the law firm Berman Devalerio and Pease on Dec. 29 in the United States District Court for the New Jersey district, seeks damages on behalf of stockholders who bought Lucent stock between the dates of July 20 and Dec. 20 last year for what it describes as violations of federal securities laws.

RELM Wireless Corp. announced it closed a loan modification agreement with the owner of the company’s former paper manufacturing subsidiary. The modification changes the terms of the original secured promissory note and cures the previous default on a $400,000 principle payment obligation of the original note.
