ROSH HA’AYIN, ISRAEL-Partner Communications, the only GSM mobile telephone network operator in Israel, announced the launch of High Speed Circuit Switched Data service, named orange high speed. The service will provide subscribers with data speeds of up to 28.8 kilobits per second on their portable computers, allowing faster rates for Internet, e-mail, calendar and file transfer services, the company said.
The orange high-speed service is offered using the Nokia Card Phone, a PCMCIA-portable computer card. The card contains a built-in GSM phone, which allows a user to connect to a PC using a cellular device rather than a fixed line. The company said the service is expected to be offered soon directly through HSCSD-enabled GSM cellular handsets, in addition to the PC-compatible device.
