LONDON-Vodafone Group plc added 13.2 million customers worldwide to its subscriber base during the quarter ended Dec. 31, helped by record sales in the United Kingdom and strong sales in Italy and Germany.
“These figures show strong underlying growth from virtually all of our networks and are further enhanced by our initial investment in China and our increased ownership in Spain and Japan,” said Chris Gent, chief executive officer of Vodafone. “We are well on track to exceeding 50-percent customer growth for the fourth successive year.”
The company noted its current customer base stands at 78.7 million subscribers worldwide.
Fellow U.K. operator Orange also reported record-breaking Christmas sales, adding 3.3 million subscribers and doubling its total U.K. customer base to 9.8 million subscribers compared with last year.
