Indiqu Inc. wants to make your cell phone fun.
The mobile games developer and marketer has signed several deals in the past few weeks to expand its coverage and improve its games offerings, all in a push to “transform wireless devices into personal entertainment terminals and provide fun distractions to mobile-phone users worldwide,” according to the company.
Indiqu uses its proprietary technology platform, quServe, to deploy its games on a variety of wireless devices, browsers and platforms. The company’s Mobile Entertainment Network features all kinds of games-casino, cards, sports and quiz games-and information on weather conditions, sports and resorts.
“The WAP games sector is fast becoming one of the hottest areas of the industry as telecommunications companies and content providers wake up to its potential,” said Robert Lezec, Indiqu’s president and chief executive officer.
Last week, Indiqu signed an agreement with Canadian wireless operator Telus Mobility to deliver interactive games to Telus’ digital wireless subscribers across Canada.
The agreement calls for Indiqu to deliver a range of its games, including casino, card, arcade, sports, quiz show, board and parlor games in both English and French.
The move adds another carrier to Indiqu’s already extensive list of clients, which include AT&T Wireless Services, BellSouth, Sprint PCS, Qwest and Telus Mobility.
Also in the past few weeks, the company signed agreements to improve its game offerings. A deal with content-provider Distractions will expand Indiqu’s game offerings to mobile operators in Europe. Distractions will provide trivia quizzes on celebrities, fashion, music and current affairs. The new games are scheduled to be available in six European countries by 2001. A deal with Microsoft Encarta, the software giant’s interactive learning offering, calls for Microsoft to provide thousands of nature and science trivia questions for Indiqu’s quiz game offerings.
