Qwest’s wireless revenues double in 2000

DENVER-Qwest Communications International Inc. posted a 10-percent increase in operating revenue for the fourth quarter of 2000, compared with the same quarter in 1999 from $4.5 billion to $5 billion.

Net income for the quarter jumped more the 43 percent, from $188 million in 1999 to $270 million last year, with diluted earnings per share rising from 28 cents per share to 32 cents per share.

For the year, Qwest’s operating revenue rose from $16.5 billion in 1999 to $18.9 billion last year. Net income increased from $648 million to $995 million, with diluted earnings per share rising from $1.08 per share in 1999 to $1.25 in 2000.

Qwest’s wireless division reported a 91-percent increase in revenues for the fourth quarter, from $78 million in 1999 to $149 million last year. The company’s subscriber base increased from 466,000 subscribers during the fourth quarter of 1999 to 805,000 subscribers in 2000.

For the year, wireless revenues jumped more than 109 percent, from $236 million in 1999 to $495 million last year.
