BT Cellnet, Seven offer corporate data solution

OXFORD, United Kingdom-BT Cellnet and its wireless services arm Genie are to launch a data service to allow mobile users and field workers wireless access to corporate networks. The two BT divisions have agreed to team up with the U.S. infrastructure developer Seven to launch the service later this year.

The service, which is designed to use GPRS technology, aims to allow companies to standardize on a single strategy and service provider for both mobile data and telecom services. Kent Thexton, president of Genie, said the company intends to be the first cell-phone operator to offer Seven’s wireless data application to both large and medium-size companies.
