NEW YORK-SkyBridge L.P., a Bethesda, Md., company that plans to offer fixed wireless broadband access in 2003 via its own low-earth-orbit satellite constellation, will add leased geostationary satellite capacity to its offering by the end of this year.
“SkyBridge will provide both access and content distribution offerings to service providers on a wholesale basis by the end of 2001. We know demand is there (because) operators have been asking us for a service as soon as possible,” said Pascale Sourisse, president and chief executive officer.
“This year we will have a solution for them. The introduction of services this year will create a strong foundation for launching [our] LEO constellation. … We are still 100-percent committed to the LEO satellite constellation … a unique broadband access system.”
For its service launch at year-end, SkyBridge will lease capacity from LEO satellite owners. The company also will invest in the ground infrastructure, the delivery platform for provision of broadband access and a portfolio of content distribution services and value-added services, which may include distance learning via the Internet.
SkyBridge also said its “positioning as a carriers’ carrier remains unchanged.”
