PARIS-Alcatel signed a GSM expansion contract with China’s Shanghai Mobile Communication Company Ltd. Valued at more than $80 million, the expansion contract will bring the network to a total capacity of more than 6 million subscribers.
Alcatel will provide infrastructure, software and system services. The software will allow seamless roaming between GSM 900 MHz and GSM 1800 MHz subscribers.
The contract was signed and will be serviced by Alcatel’s Chinese joint venture, Shanghai Bell Alcatel Mobile Communication System Company Ltd.
