MURRAY HILL, N.J.-Lucent Technologies Inc. and U.S. Cellular Corp. signed a contract that calls for Lucent to supply digital wireless systems, engineering and installation services for the existing U.S. Cellular network in Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
Lucent has already begun installing the digital network based on CDMA technology. Lucent will povide its Mobile Switching Center, Series II Cell Sites and CDMA Double Density Growth Frames, which all support the CDMA2000 third-generation standard. Lucent Worldwide Services organization will provide engineering and installation services. According to Lucent, the four-year contract is valued at up to $100 million and will expand U.S. Cellular’s network capacity and capability, and improve the quality and reliability of its wireless service.
