China Mobile awards five GSM contracts to Motorola

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill.-China Mobile has awarded five contracts valued at $146 million to Motorola Inc.’s Global Telecom Solutions Sector to build GSM and GPRS networks in five provinces in China.

The contracts, which add to a $213 million April 25 GSM supply contract to expand the operator’s GSM900 dual-band network in Hunan province, will cover Jiangxi, Hubei, Tianjin, Sanxi and Beijing.

“With the increasing demand for not only voice, but data services over GSM, we are looking forward to continuing our relationship with China Mobile to take its network forward into the new generation of mobile communication-wireless Internet,” said Ruey Bin Kao, Motorola’s vice president and GTSS general manager of China.
