Japan’s premier operator NTT DoCoMo has suspended sales of its i-mode-enabled Sony phones because of glitches that will make it possible for third-party providers to view some data stored in the handset.
The company did not disclose when the sales of the “DoCoMo by Sony SO503I” phone will resume.
“Voice communication and other functions of the phone work without problem,” NTT DoCoMo said in a statement.
Approximately 420,000 handsets have been sold since early March, according to DoCoMo, which said it would replace the phones upon customer requests.
