ARLINGTON, Va.-AT&T Wireless affiliate TeleCorp PCS Inc. added 86,174 wireless subscribers during the first quarter of 2001, bringing the wireless operator’s customer base to 752,599 subscribers. Total postpaid customer additions of 105,240 for the quarter were offset by a loss of 19,066 prepaid subscribers, leaving the carrier’s customer base made up of 77-percent postpaid and 23-percent prepaid subscribers.
The company’s average revenue per user fell from $67 during the first quarter of 2000 to $51 this year, with the carrier’s churn rate increasing from 2.3 percent to 3.6 percent during the same time frame. Total revenue nearly tripled from $55.4 million posted last year to $149.7 million this year. Net loss also increased from $82.2 million during the first quarter of 2000, or 83 cents per share, to a loss of $172.7 million this year, or 89 cents per share.
