AOLi service launches in Japan

TOKYO-NTT DoCoMo Inc. and DoCoMo AOL Inc. announced the June 1 nationwide launch of AOLi, which gives i-mode users access to America Online e-mail.

AOLi will offer i-mode users their own AOL screen name, allowing them to link to the AOL e-mail service via either their i-mode handsets or PCs and send and receive attached files from PCs.

The service is part of NTT DoCoMo and AOL’s shared vision of seamlessly integrated Internet services across both fixed-line and wireless platforms, referred to as fixed mobile convergence, NTT DoCoMo said in a statement.

There will be no charge for i-mode only use and a free three-month trial for PC use. Packet transmission charges apply, along with the standard i-mode service access charge.
