HONG KONG-Repeater Technologies Inc. announced at the 3G World Congress in Hong Kong receiving type acceptance for its Over-the-Air 850C Network Repeater from China’s Ministry of Information Industry’s State Regulatory Commission, a move coinciding with China Unicom’s decision to implement CDMA technology on part of its network.
“Type acceptance demonstrates that our product meets requirements for operating in China’s 800 MHz spectrum, thus clearing the way for deployment of the OA850C with China’s national carriers,” said Chris Branscum, president and chief executive officer of Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Repeater Technologies.
In addition to being deployed in China, Repeater products have been deployed by CDMA operators in 12 countries, including Australia, Bangladesh and Indonesia in the Asia Pacific. U.S.-based Alamosa PCS also uses the product.
The company noted its repeaters replace full base stations in networks, capturing the wireless transmission to a mobile terminal and repeating the signal at the same frequency into a desired area of coverage. Branscum explained that while the technology helps operators expand their networks, it also can lower capital expenditure and operational costs by as much as 50 percent, which is an important criteria for most carriers experiencing tight equity markets.
Branscum also pointed out that the technology is compliant with upcoming third-generation technologies, including cdma2000 1x networks, allowing wireless telecom carriers to implement repeaters without concerns over compatibility issues.
