WOODBURY, N.Y.-Comverse today scored a major sale, announcing that all six Hong Kong mobile operators will use the company’s Intelligent Short Message Service Center to support SMS messages among the carriers’ networks.
Comverse said its ISMSC product will allow all of the city’s 5.4 million users to send SMS messages regardless of the network. Before the deal, users could only send messages to other users on the same network, a problem mirrored in the United States. Hong Kong CSL, Hutchison Telephone, New World PCS, Peoples Telephone, SmarTone Mobile Communications and Sunday O/B Mandarin Communications signed on for Comverse’s ISMSC service.
“In such a competitive market, ISMSC adds value for both mobile operators and subscribers by allowing transparency across networks,” said Zeev Bregman, Comverse’s chief executive officer.
