LONDON-Manx Telecom, the British Telecommunications plc subsidiary that postponed its third-generation network launch from May until later this year, said it completed the Isle of Man’s first data call over the 3G network. The call allowed online browsing of HTML pages.
The call was made on the actual operational 3G network and used an NEC commercial 3G handset connected to a laptop computer.
“The call opens the door to some of the most exciting applications in our suite of 3G services on a mobile phone, like watching your football team score its winning goal, finding and booking a hotel, checking e-mail while traveling to business meetings and playing games with people across the world,” said Mark Briers, director at Manx Telecom.
In addition, Manx Telecom also implemented an integrated billing system, which will eventually allow customers to receive itemized bills that cover all the services the company provides.
Users will also be able to check the status of their bill on their mobile phones.
