Romanian GSM operator wants 3G license

BUCHAREST, Romania—According to the Romanian newspaper Ziarul Financiar, Ted Lattimore, president and chief operating officer (COO) of MobiFon, said the company is interested in buying a Romanian 3G license.
Lattimore said that he does not know how much the UMTS license will cost. The price could be between US$5 million and US$500 million and the network investment will be from US$240 million to US$400 million.
Mobifon launch GPRS as a test service and the commercial launch will be at the end of 2001.
According to Lattimore, at the end of 2001, MobiFon will have about 1.8 million to 1.9 million customers.
