Hutchison, Motorola launch in Macau

HONG KONG-Motorola Inc. and Hutchison Telecommunications (Hong Kong) Ltd. announced the commercial launch of a second-generation dual-band wireless network in Macau, a special administrative territory of the People’s Republic of China.
Motorola said it has installed macro and micro GSM 900/1800 MHz communications network base stations throughout the territory to support this launch.
An estimated 450,000 people throughout the territory will be serviced, and Hutchison Telecom in Macau said it would eventually upgrade the network to a GPRS technology by adding a packet controller unit and a gateway support node core network, as well as a software upgrade.
“Motorola and Hutchison have enjoyed a strong working relationship in the telecom industry, in particular the development of cutting-edge mobile services,” said Simon Leung, corporate vice president and general manager of the Asia-Pacific Region for Motorola’s Global Telecom Solutions Sector. “We are pleased to bring our expertise in radio technology and engineering services to Hutchison’s growing presence in the Macau mobile industry.”
