Compaq will work with Intel on PCA devices

SANTA CLARA, California, United States—In another vote of support for Intel’s Personal Internet Client Architecture initiative, Compaq Computer said it will work with Intel on PCA-based devices running on current and next-generation networks.
The announcement comes a day after operating-system designer Symbian announced its intent to support Intel’s PCA initiative.
Under today’s announcement, Compaq also said its popular iPAQ personal digital assistant (PDA) will be the reference platform in Intel PCA developer kits.
“Compaq applauds Intel’s efforts to speed the development of applications and services for wireless networks with initiatives like the Intel Personal Internet Client Architecture,” said Sean Burke, Compaq’s vice president and general manager for the company’s iPAQ division.
Intel said its PCA initiative is a development blueprint for building wireless devices and applications for the mobile Internet.
