NTT DoCoMo to launch live motion picture services over FOMA

TOKYO—NTT DoCoMo Inc. said it plans to launch live video streaming services on an experimental basis for 3G service users on 1 October. The carrier is scheduled to launch commercial 3G service, what NTT DoCoMo calls FOMA services, on 1 October.
In order to launch the streaming service, NTT DoCoMo, in cooperation with 31 companies, will set up the FOMA Live Streaming Delivery Trial Consortium on 20 September. Some big names such as Sogo Keibi Hosho, a leading home security and security guard company, and JTB, Japan’s largest travel agency, will join the consortium.
NTT DoCoMo, in cooperation with PacketVideo Corp., began to develop the platform for live video streaming service last January.
