LA JOLLA, Calif.—NewsTakes Inc. released a new product for packet-based wireless network operators and wired Internet companies that NewsTakes said allows users to control how they view and—more importantly—pay for streaming media content.
The company’s patent-pending product, Packet Choice, allows users to choose customized viewing options, ranging from full-motion video, reduced frame-rate video or various levels of slide shows. Each option includes the predicted amount of data use, giving the operator a way to bill per byte and the user a choice of how much to spend, the company said.
NewsTakes said its Packet Choice product uses the same technology as its recently announced Bandwidth Adapt product, which analyzes video content and measures bandwidth usage in real time.
