Cingular this morning said its network is operating normally following yesterday’s terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington. The company said it is experiencing a 20-percent increase in attempted calls nationwide, but that there are no blockages or network outages.
Cingular said it is deploying four Cells on Wheels (COWS), three of which are already in place, to increase network capacity in Washington.
The company also reported Cingular Interactive lost six cell sites in Manhattan as a result of the attack, which primarily were used for the World Trade Center. It said it not experienced any problems as a result because network usage is below normal levels.
The company said traffic began to decrease last night falling elevated levels during the day.
