WASHINGTON—The Federal Communications Commission today said the communications industry is doing a heroic effort to keep the nation’s wireless, TV and wireline systems operating.
“I am deeply saddened by the loss experienced yesterday (Tuesday) by the people of New York and Washington, D.C., rescue workers, federal employees and all Americans affected by yesterday’s tragedies. I am grateful for the tireless and heroic efforts of those in the telecommunications industry who are working hard to keep our most fundamental communications systems—such as telephone service, wireless phone service and television service—operating efficiently under the circumstances. This is a difficult time for everyone and we must be patient,” said FCC Chairman Michael K. Powell.
The FCC’s regularly scheduled open meeting set for Thursday is still scheduled to go on as planned.
