Valence announces GPS IC is now available

SALT LAKE CITY—Valence Semiconductor announced its VS7001 integrated circuit for GPS applications is now available. “The VS7001 represents a milestone in GPS design engineering and innovation moving toward the world’s first single chip GPS,” said Antony Beswick, vice president of strategic marketing for Valence. “As a result, Valence is the only company setting the benchmark for full, pure CMOS integration within wireless technologies that deliver outstanding price and performance for mobile devices worldwide.”

The VS7001 is a fully integrated, CMOS receiver that Valence said can provide the industry with a clear path to a single chip GPS system. Prototype units have been provided to more than 50 companies for evaluation within wireless devices.

According to Valence, advantages of the VS7001 include its low cost, robust performance, integration with baseband technologies and low power consumption.

“Valence’s implementation of GPS represents a significant step forward and sets the example for others to follow,” said Andy Fuertes, senior vice president for Allied Business Intelligence. “CMOS RF implementation, low power, and a small footprint will open the door to true mass market success.”
