VILNIUS, Lithuania—Wireless operator Omnitel began a new telephone numbering system, with the prefix of mobile telephone services in Lithuania beginning with a digit six. Lithuania’s National Telephone Numbering Plan introduced a new numbering system for the country’s fixed and mobile services.
The carrier said it has had a lack of new numbers since mid-2001, which hindered it from expanding its services. The plan will be implemented through 1 June, 2004, in four stages.
