Vodafone to appoint new president to Japan Telecom

TOKYO—Chris Gent, president of Vodafone Group, said that Vodafone is going to send a new president to Japan Telecom in January. Vodafone is in the process of raising its stake in Japan Telecom from its current 45 percent to 66.7 percent.

Due to the reshuffle of top management, Chairman Koichi Sakata will step down from his position, and President Haruo Murakami will serve as chairman. Gent said the new president must be either a Japanese or a non-Japanese who speaks Japanese and has deep knowledge of Japanese business and culture. Vodafone already assigned a new president to J-Phone, the mobile business unit of Japan Telecom.
