LONDON—Diederik Karsten, chief executive of KPN’s mobile-phone division intends to leave the company next month, according to a report by The Financial Times.
Board director Paul Smits, who recently stepped down as group chief executive will replace Karsten. As previously announced, Ad Scheepbouwer will replace Smits as group chief executive.
“The KPN board of management regrets the departure of Mr. Karsten who has been with the company since 1996 and saw it expand into a mobile operator with 13.5 million customer in Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium,” KPN reportedly said in a statement.
It is likely the executive reorganization comes in response to the KPN’s compounding debt, which now surpasses $20.2 billion.
