Sharp partners with SOMA for next-generation devices

TOKYO-Sharp and SOMA, a U.S.-based venture, tied-up over the next-generation wireless communications business. Based on the agreement, Sharp will provide “several million” U.S. dollars in funds for Soma and will develop the next-generation SOMAport, a proprietary fixed-wireless device developed by SOMA.

Sharp will be the first non-U.S. company to develop SOMA’s equipment. Both firms are targeting to develop Sharp’s version of SOMAport in the first quarter of 2003. Sharp will also develop a PC, a fax machine and other electronics devices based on SOMAport technology.
