SEATTLE—Monet Mobile Networks Inc., which won PCS spectrum licenses during the Federal Communications Commission’s auction earlier this year, launched its data-only, cdma2000 1x next-generation wireless network in Sioux Falls, S.D.
The data service uses PC card modems provided from Novatel Wireless and Gtran Wireless compatible with desktop, laptop and handheld personal computers. Money said the initial service is expected to provide throughput twice as fast as typical dial-up connections, and will be upgraded next year to 1xEV-DO providing speeds up to 2.4 megabits per second.
Monet is offering the service for a flat-rate of $50 per month, with the modem delivered within 72 hours.
