ORANGEBURG, N.Y.—Verizon Wireless has reminded its customers in New York that beginning Nov. 1, customers must use hands-free technology when talking and driving.
“We think educating drivers about how to use wireless phones responsibly while driving will enhance roadway safety for all of us,” said Charles Hand, president of Verizon Wireless’ New York Metro Region.
The nation’s largest carrier gave its customers various options for complying with the law including headsets starting at $14.99, the $199.99 Motorola 270c and hands-free car kits beginning at $129.99.
The Motorola 270c has a built in speakerphone and voice-activated dialing. Clips, which must be purchased separately for $19.99, are available to attach the 270c to the car’s vent or visor. The phone can also be removed from the vehicle and taken with the customer when he or she leaves the car.
Customers choosing to ignore the hands-free law will face $100 fines come Dec. 1.
