MURRAY HILL, New Jersey, United States—Lucent Technologies fell below market estimate as it recorded a fourth-quarter net loss of US$8.8 billion, or US$2.59 a share, as against a loss of US$484 million a year ago.
“All along, we’ve said fiscal 2001 would be a rebuilding year for Lucent,” remarked Henry Schacht, the company’s chairman and chief executive. “We developed a set of plans to return Lucent to profitability.”
