Agere contracts with Chinese carrier for phones

ALLENTOWN, Pennsylvania, United States—Agere Systems announced its wireless platform and semiconductor will be used in Beijing-based PTIC Capitel’s new small C76088 and C6288 models, which recently began selling to the Chinese markets.

According to the company, the new phones are 30-percent smaller than a business card and weigh 2.4 ounces. “The commercialization of these phones marks the conquering of another key electronics challenge, taking a big leap forward in cell-phone design,” said Luc Seraphin, vice president and general manager of Agere’s wireless mobile appliances division.
