HELSINKI, Finland—ICE International, a technology development company based in Bergen, Norway, has confirmed plans to enter the international marketplace with new technology that will automatically “turn off” unwanted mobile telephones in use at a range of cell-phone prohibited zones, such as airports, hospitals and military bases.
The technology is being tested at Bergen Airport and at the Haukeland General Hospital in Bergen.
The final results of the airport and hospital trials will be reported during the first quarter of 2001. The so-called Signal Intervention Technology (SIT) is developed in collaboration with the Bergen Airport Authority and Norwegian safety organizations.
“The system consists of a 10-centimeter square antenna box, which transmits PC signals, which automatically turn off unwanted mobile phones within a specified range. This range can be extended by strengthening the PC signal. This technology will have a global appeal and from a security perspective, has many critical applications,” said Monrad Tangen, ICE Corporation’s project development director.
