JOHANNESBURG, South Africa—The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) signed agreements with Siemens and Alcatel for its centers of excellence.
Siemens will address Eastern and Southern Africa’s center of excellence, followed by Western and Central Africa in the second quarter of 2002 and the Caribbean by the fourth quarter of 2002.
Alcatel intends to participate in all five ITU centers of excellence, with an initial focus on the Africa and Arab countries and in Latin America in 2002.
The ITU centers of excellence serve as focal points in developing regions of the world for training, professional development, research and information on telecommunications issues.
