VoiceStream to acquire MobileStar

BELLEVUE, Wash.-VoiceStream Wireless said it will acquire the majority of bankrupt MobileStar Network Corp.’s equipment and contracts for an undisclosed sum, although the mobile service provider is not yet saying what it plans to do with the assets. The deal was reached last week and must still be approved by a bankruptcy court.

VoiceStream is providing MobileStar with financial assistance in the interim, although VoiceStream also did not specify how much it was helping MobileStar financially. MobileStar, which provided high-speed wireless Internet access via 802.11b technology in about 650 locations, including airports, hotels and most predominantly, Starbucks coffee houses, has been effectively shut down since Oct. 9.
