WASHINGTON—The Federal Communications Commission today named a former agency official and industry veteran Dale Hatfield to oversee an inquiry of technical and operational issues affecting the delayed deployment of enhanced wireless 911 service. The probe will examine information from technology vendors, network equipment and handset manufacturers, carriers and public safety agencies. The FCC said more details on the inquiry will be available soon. Hatfield, former top FCC engineer, will work closely with the agency’s wireless bureau on the project.
