SEATTLE, United States—Brazil’s Varig Airlines will launch an e-mail and Web service using technology from Tenzing Communications next year. Varig, South America’s largest airline, installed the service on the first of its fleet of six new 777 aircraft.
The service will allow passengers to send and receive e-mail while in flight and will be available in the first quarter of next year. Users will plug their laptops into Varig’s in-flight entertainment system, the new MAS 3000 provided by Matsushita and equipped with a Tenzing server. Users will dial into the Tenzing global network after registering at the Tenzing or Varig Web sites.
