HELSINKI, Finland—Finnish wireless carrier Sonera Corp. hopes to be the first carrier to offer multimedia messaging services in the first half of next year through a deal with Nokia Corp.
Sonera purchased Nokia’s Artuse Multimedia Messaging Service Center, which allows users to send text messages that include sound clips, pictures and short animations. Users without MMS-capable phones will be able to retrieve MMS messages from a Web site, Nokia said.
“We believe Finnish customers, who are forerunners in text messaging, to eagerly adopt these new services,” said Janne Vainio, Sonera’s vice president.
