BEDMINSTER, N.J.—Verizon Wireless unveiled the SCH-N300, a new wireless phone capable of identifying a caller’s calling location and phone number to an emergency call center.
Verizon said the E911 location-based technology will work in areas where its network and the local 911 call center system have been upgraded for E911 Phase II service. Verizon said it expects its nationwide network upgrades to be completed by the second quarter of 2003, and 65 percent of the population it serves to be able to transmit location data by this April.
