Orange U.K. transitions to IP-based signaling

MORRISVILLE, N.C.—Orange U.K. has completed its transition of its GSM network to an IP-based signaling network. Orange U.K. has replaced 90 percent of its Time Division Multiplex-based signaling network with next-generation technology.

Tekelec, which supplied the equipment, said the upgrade represented the first large-scale deployment of an international IP signaling network. The IP signaling provides bandwidth required for rapid subscriber growth and delivery of data services.

“An IP-based signaling network is simple to maintain and scale and allows Orange U.K. to roll out revenue-generating services quickly without being limited by network infrastructure capacity constraints and long engineering lead times,” said Graham Baxter, head of network design for Orange U.K.
